Image Tagging Image:EmilyGreeneBalch.jpg[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:EmilyGreeneBalch.jpg. This image is missing permission information. Bonjour,
Merci de me signaler cettte information. J'essaierais de prendre une photo comme le souhaite Handicap International la prochaine fois que je passe sur la Place des Nations. En attendant, il n'y a pas de raison, à mon avis, de ne pas utiliser la photo actuelle. Yann 15:44, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:MosesSheppard.jpg[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:MosesSheppard.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 19:06, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

This media was probably deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Arbalette.gif, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (

If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Hi, I noticed you trimmed the painting frame. As the photograph is released by the Wellcome as CC-BY, this includes the frame, and as the frame itself is 200 years old, there can be no problem with copyright. Copyright status: File:Christine Z II-plaque.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Christine Z II-plaque.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Hi MHM55; why did you remove Category:Diagonal steam engines and Category:Sulzer engines from File:Maschine La Suisse.ogv? This is a diagonal steam engine of a type that was often used for paddle steamers. Permission to use picture of SwissTech building -- need signed release for publisher[edit]
Hi,
I'm working on a book for school teachers due out this fall about teaching engineering and design from a Nature-based perspective. I'm writing because I'm hoping to use an image of yours in the book, with due credit of course (from https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SwissTech_Convention_Centre_Campus_02.jpg). Your image would appear in a chapter about teaching sustainability.
Even though you kindly made your image available to others through Creative Commons, my publisher still requires a signed release form for any images I use in the book.
I hope you will contact me so I can answer any of your questions, and attach the release. My email address is samstier@gmail.com (samstier at gmail dot com)
Many thanks for considering my request!

Compactus[edit]
Hi, I saw you removed all images from Category:Compactus to Category:Compact shelving, with the remark "Compactus is a trademark" – I don't know what you mean by that, I mean: there is many, many Categories with trademarks as title. Why not just put Compactus in the category Compact shelving? We have categories to make it easy to find files, you don't empty the Category:Coca cola and categorize everything that was in it in Category:Beverages, right? Please explain, thanks. Greetings, Eissink (talk) 12:45, 15 March 2020 (UTC).
- Or was none of the shelvings on the images a real Compactus, or at least not identifiable as such? In that case it would make sense, but the moment a picture of a real Compactus was added, the category should become a subcategory, not a redirect, imo. Eissink (talk) 13:12, 15 March 2020 (UTC).
@Eissink: I agree, Category:Compactus could have been retained as subcategory. But looking at the pictures make me think it is very difficult to know which shelves are produced by this company and which are not. More, it is current - at least in French - to use the term « Compactus » for whatever kind of compact shelving. If somebody is able to identify the "real" Compactus shelves, let's have a new category for those images, and add a comment regarding the specifity of the category. - --MHM (talk) 13:25, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
- You are right. I suggest we keep it as it is for now. Someone who is able and willing to discern can in the future always change it in the way you describe and maybe even write an article on the company producing Compactus. Thanks for your answer, Eissink (talk) 14:04, 15 March 2020 (UTC).

We need your feedback![edit]
Hello. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Thank you!
I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.
We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.
Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.
Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.

Hi, I selectively adjusted the brightness of your photo, and added it to the Bourbaki_Panorama article [[2]]. I hope you approve! Best regards, --Janke (talk) 12:00, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
Thankyou, an interesting new design form. Andy Dingley (talk) 12:40, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- Your comment is welcomed! It was difficult to find a relevant name, the structure being radically different from usual truss bridges. The bridge in Geneva received a lot of architectural and engineering positive comments. MHM (talk) 12:54, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
Affichage sauvage[edit]
UploadWizard ETH-Bibliothek[edit]
Hi MHM55, I just saw that you uploaded in 2020 some images with the UploadWizard and used some ETH-Bibliothek information. Now it looks like those two images are from the ETH-Bibliothek Bildarchiv, took by the photographer Walter Mittelholzer. That is totally wrong and needs to be corrected. Please change the source and author and adjust the license. It concerns the following images
- File:Yvoy-n4-SciencesIII-entrée.jpg
- File:Yvoy-n4-SciencesIII-rampe.jpg
- File:Yvoy-n1-SteClo21.jpg
- File:Yvoy-n29-33.jpg
- File:Yvoy-n9-garage.jpg
- File:Yvoy-n11-b.jpg
- File:Yvoy-n11-a.jpg
- File:Yvoy-n11-1.jpg
Thank you ^FH ETH-Bibliothek (talk) 09:25, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
- @ETH-Bibliothek: Thank you for this. It is a very strange situation. I can't explain how it was possible to achieve this mess.
- The same reference to the ETH document ("ethz-a-000296482") appears on File:ETH-BIB-Genf-Kursaal-Inlandflüge-MH01-004591.jpg, an extract I uploaded on 23.6.2020 at 10:12. The information re. source, author, licence and history were copied to the mentionned 8 files, uploaded on the same day at 22:23.
- I was able to change source, author and licence information. But I can't change the "commentary" in the file history and will ask an administrator to do it.
- Vielen Dank für die viele Bildern von ETH-Bibliothek Bildarchiv! --MHM (talk) 10:13, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you @MHM55 for the quick adjustment. Possible that there was a mixup with the indications, as for the image File:ETH-BIB-Genf-Kursaal-Inlandflüge-MH01-004591.jpg the indications are correct.
- No need to change it in the "commentary". Important is, that it is changed on the file information and that looks good now. ^FH ETH-Bibliothek (talk) 13:10, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
Hi MHM55, where is this status located, in a building or completely outdoors? I am asking to evaluate whether freedom-of-panorama of Switzerland applies, as the work is still in copyright. --Túrelio (talk) 12:17, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for asking. I myself had some difficulties to locate it exactly using internet pages. It is outside, not in the church or in another building. A public place, like a public garden, but within the limits of the Münster. --MHM (talk) 12:32, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

Category for bench[edit]
Hi, I found this edit, could you please help me out where this bench should be in relation to the roman gravesite in Cologne? The site is located in a very urban area in a subsoil chamber, an I couldn't find a relation to this bench, the name on it or let alone a forest like on the image. Are you sure the image belongs to the gravesite? Thanks for clarification. Elya (talk) 16:16, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
- I found it out ;-) it's just the wrong category, if you check the user contributions you can see it's in a different region of Germany. I'll recategorize it. Elya (talk) 16:26, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
- Vielen Dank Elya.
