Remove the category Datei:*attribute* from my transferred files.[edit]

These are vestigial from their previous dewiki state, so please have an automated program remove these red categories from the file. Grandmaster Huon (talk) 03:01, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Grandmaster Huon: I can find no such instances of "Category:Datei:*attribute*".   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 08:39, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i suggest, while replacing "Category:Datei:" with "Category:", also tag the files with Template:Check categories. RZuo (talk) 08:54, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Grandmaster Huon and RZuo: ✓ Done to ~683+185 files using VFC to replace /\[\[Category:Datei:[a-zA-Z]*\]\]/g or /\[\[Category:Datei:.*\]\]/g with {{Check categories}} per special:diff/857698929.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 09:28, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Dokument redirects to Category:Documents.
now that info is lost. what's there to "Check categories"? by removing all categories dont you realise you should use Template:Uncategorized?
and you dont know or see "Note: Use {{subst:chc}} for images, which automatically adds the date."?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ RZuo (talk) 09:36, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@RZuo: That info is still in the history, Grandmaster Huon wanted it removed. I used {{Uncategorized}} and removed duplicates of it.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 09:59, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Grandmaster Huon: I can find no files you uploaded containing "attribute" but File:Annual circulation of Amazing Stories.gif, where it is in context. Please be more specific, including an example.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 09:06, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Need hard touch on files in a category[edit]

Hi. I need to someone with pywikibot to hard touch all the files in Category:Category pages with broken file links to force that category to update, as that cat is refusing to update unless the files are edited. Purging is failing. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:59, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Billinghurst: I am not sure if this is what you wanted, but I went to PAWS, logged in, clicked "new" and "terminal", then ran "pwb.py touch -family:commons -lang:commons -cat:Category_pages_with_broken_file_links" to touch the files and other pages in that category (but not subcategories). It just finished after touching 35 pages. —RP88 (talk) 00:34, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and I am an idiot, I meant that categories, not the files. If you could do that for me, I would be much appreciated. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:38, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, doing that now. —RP88 (talk) 00:40, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Magic, that cleared away the dregs so I could find those that I can action, Now waiting for the cleanup of template:lettercombo to further resolve.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:38, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
...and the job has finished, all 677 subcats have been null edited. The command I used was "pwb.py touch -family:commons -lang:commons -subcats:Category_pages_with_broken_file_links". —RP88 (talk) 02:54, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Billinghurst: I believe an automated process was set up to do this kind of thing for the subcats in Category:Non-empty disambiguation categories. Is that somethings that would be helpful here? I don't know how to do it myself, but it seems like the same kind of thing. -- Auntof6 (talk) 07:04, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Auntof6. Seems that @Mdaniels5757 did that recursive touch and put it on a cronjob after a discussion here. I used to do that, however, I don't have ready access to the tools machines at this time to set one up. I can probably manually manage the new cases, if push comes to shove. [I need to get around to getting my new PC, just so short on time.]  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:17, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Billinghurst Done, it will now run pwb -family:commons -lang:commons touch -subcats:Category_pages_with_broken_file_links daily. —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 18:32, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mdaniels5757 Thanks. Could you also add pwb.py touch -family:commons -lang:commons -subcats:Non-empty_disambiguation_categories another maintenance category that is needing a helping shove.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:38, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why are backend processes failing so often and so consistently for those cats and Category:Incomplete deletion requests and children that such touching needs to be done? I have to touch Category:Incomplete deletion requests - missing subpage‎ and everything in it so frequently that this is the default state of my AWB.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:32, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Billinghurst I already have that running daily. —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 15:39, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff G. it is the nature of the beast for (back)link tables, and how these categories can be passively populated or de-populated. We have had to touch and purge forever, and these mega categories just fail sometimes. For full explanation you will need to ask over at mediawikiwiki or see if someone can address through phabricator. Not a battle I wish to pursue, I am being solutions focused, and I know what I need.  — billinghurst sDrewth 20:00, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Replace coodinates in file descriptions with {{Location}} template[edit]

Most files within Category:US National Archives series: Digital Photographs Relating to America's Byways have the exact location of the camera within their "|description=", such as "Location: Oregon (44.099° N 121.725° W)" on this file. It would be good if someone could convert this to use the standart {{Location}} template. I don't know how many files this affects exactly, but it are definitly multiple thousands. Further, many files have "Photo by XYZ" within the description, but the |author= parameter is empty, resulting in "Author: Unknown author or not provided" which could be fixed too.
